Aside from being a world supplier for Shrimps and Tuna, Indonesia has recorded a sum of 42.000 MT with USD 65 million import value during Jan-Feb 2021, last year. The major seafood items imported by Indonesian are Mackerel, Skipjack tuna, salmon-trout, and cod.
The trends of consuming more packaged – convenient food have recently grown in Indonesia. Some of the imported seafood is used for the canning industry, while others are sold in simple processing forms like steak or cut. The local canning industry had depended much on pacific mackerel imports from China or Japan, although some of the small volumes also had shown in Indonesia.
Salmon is one of the most expensive seafood imported in Indonesia, and the order of salmon fish from Norway or Chile has been increasing. It is supplied at the HORECA industry and modern market chain in most of the big cities of Indonesia.
