New Zealand avocados are set for a challenging season, and a big increase in production volume will likely lead to a decreased price. New Zealand avocado exports hit the record, reaching USD 202 million in the season, and it was boosted by a surge in production and exports to Australia.

New Zealand avocado production is expected to grow in the 2021/2022 season, although demand from Australia is expected to decline. According to SOPI, the increase in avocado acreage in New Zealand and other Southern Hemisphere countries has led to a significant increase in yields and competition with other southern hemisphere countries. In terms of market demand, demand from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Malaysia increases. As a result, SOPI expects exports to reach USD 115 million in the new quarter, decreasing by 43% compared to the previous quarter.
