Even though Hurricane Julia did not directly hit Costa Rica during the first week of October, it did affect the Pacific Coast. Hurricane Julia caused heavy rains, reaching 350mm in one day in some areas of the coast and mountain regions near the coast. The rain created flooding of towns and crops and disrupted transit due to mudslides and the destruction of bridges on the main roads coming from the Pacific coast, increasing travel time from 8 hours to up to 20 hours in W41. Pineapple exports were affected since about 15K ha of farms are located in the South Pacific of the country but are exported through the Caribbean port called Moin, and roads to get there were affected, creating increases in transportation costs of over 100%
