According to an octopus cyanea processor in East Java, there is fierce competition amongst local processors. Most processors are willing to pay at any cost to secure more raw materials to deliver long-standing orders to their clients as the year is ending soon. The situation is driving prices up and the price remains at a high level up to date.

A local octopus agent in Medan, West Indonesia, also stated that a number of seafood companies in East Java have been buying large quantity of raw materials from Medan (Aceh origin) and paying as high as USD 6.00 per kg. It is said that the price may continue to rise in the near future. Another supplier in Jakarta who is buying products from Natuna island, confirmed the raw material price at approximately USD 6.00 per kg.
