The open market in Europe has experienced an approximately 20% decrease in prices of small-sized (24-32) Hass avocados in week 45. Importers predicted that this is a result of decreased demand from supermarkets and an increased supply of small-sized Hass avocados of Colombian origin.

Typically, small-sized Hass avocados are purchased by European retailers in netting programs. The avocados are sold hard and green i.e., unripe, and packaged in green-colored nets averaging about 500g each. However, it has been reported that retailers are cutting back on these netting programs, putting more demand on avocado growers worldwide to sell larger volumes of size 16-18 for boxed "Ready-To-Eat" programs.
