The Organic Agricultural Area in Spain Increased by 8% In 2021 to 2.6 Million Hectares

The area allocated to organic production in Spain increased by 8% in 2021 compared to the previous year, reaching 2,635,442ha. This increase places the useful agricultural area (UAA) dedicated to organic production at 10.79%. This data confirms the growth trend of recent years, and places Spain as one of the main organic producers by area in the EU and in the world.

The hectares dedicated to permanent crops increased by 18%, especially dried fruit which increased 35%, as well as banana and subtropical which exhibited growth of 25%, followed by citrus at 21% and olive groves at 16%. Arable crops increased by 15%, while animal feed increased by 39%.
