The Avian flu outbreak in South Africa drives up poultry prices. The recent outbreak of avian flu has resulted in a sharp rise in prices of poultry and eggs, and cause a challenge to have the supply stock. An estimated 5-7% of poultry production has been affected by the outbreak. The industry has to depend on importing breeding chicks to supplement production numbers. The increase in input costs has put further pressure on the industry.
