After the Chilean government declined to lower the fuel prices, truckers in Southern Chile joined the national strike that started on November 21, 2022. Products such as salmon were unable to be transported to the Santiago airport. Different groups of truckers are asking for a 30% fuel price reduction for six months amid the sharp rise in transportation costs. Due to this, the supply of fresh salmon from Chile will be lower until an agreement is confirmed, causing a price increase in the North American Market.
