The byproducts of the carob pods have various commercial values. Above all things, the seeds are the most valuable part, but they represent only 10% of the total weight of the pod. After extracting the seeds, the rest of the carob, which is the broken pulp, is paid a very low value. Thus, carob farmers hope to find buyers interested in acquiring the carob pods as a whole without any type of processing.
Meanwhile, during the last harvest, which was completed in September 2021, the farmers were happy to sell their crop at the farmgate price of EUR 3.00 per kg.
