The price of Argentine lemons in the Greek market was predicted to drop to USD 0.70/kg by mid-August 2022 due to an oversupply in the market. However, this situation was averted, offering a big relief for the whole system of suppliers and buyers. The record high tourist movement after the 10th of August, which almost reached 1 million arrivals per week, has given a boost to lemon consumption. The high volumes of tourists is expected to continue until mid-September providing a sustained boost to lemon consumption.

Furthermore, Turkish Meyer lemon production is rumored to be 70% lower for the 2022 season, leaving a gap in the market for Argentine lemons. The high tourist volumes coupled with low Turkish lemon volumes boosted lemon prices in Greece to USD 1,15/kg which is still lower than previous seasons, but at least it will bring some income to suppliers and importers.
