Egypt’s Russian Wheat Imports in 2023 Will Be Made Using the Egyptian Pound

The Central Bank of Russia approved the supply of wheat to Egypt for 2023 to be paid in Egyptian Pounds (EGP) instead of EUR and USD, allowing EGP to be published as an international currency for Egyptian imports. Egypt is estimated to import 4.2MMT of wheat from Russia in 2023.
