Hazelnut prices continue to rise in the free market in Ordu after an investigation was launched by the Competition Authority against a large hazelnut supplier for allegedly violating competition and creating a monopoly. On December 5, W49 hazelnuts were traded at USD 2.75/kg for nuts with a 50% kernel yield in the free market in Ordu, and the price is expected to rise in the coming days. The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has bought and continues to buy nearly 200,000MT of hazelnuts so far. Giresun-quality hazelnuts are traded at USD 2.84/kg and levant quality at USD 2.79/kg. Although TMO buys hazelnuts extensively, traders have not received the nuts. This means that traders in the free market have to bid higher than the TMO price in order to buy hazelnuts.
