Consumers in Dhaka had to pay USD 0.40 per kilo for flour in November. The price has increased by 19%, compared to USD 0.33 a year earlier, according to Food and Agriculture Organization data. Flour prices have continued to grow in Bangladesh, owing to rising wheat costs on the worldwide market and lower imports. Businesses in Bangladesh have become wary of importing grain because of the rising cost.

In Bangladesh, wheat imports are used to meet the majority of local demand due to insufficient native supply. After Egypt, Indonesia, Algeria, and Brazil, Bangladesh is the fifth-largest wheat importer.
