Morocco imports more than 132 thousand tons of dates to meet Ramadan needs

Statistics from the Exchange Office revealed that Morocco is the seventh date exporting country in the world. According to the same data, Morocco resorted this year to importing more than 132 thousand tons, at a cost exceeding 2.44 billion dirhams. While it had limited itself to importing 109 thousand tons in 2022, at an estimated cost of 2.14 billion dirhams, i.e. an increase of 23 thousand tons. Morocco was forced to increase the pace of imports, in order to meet its needs, which were affected by the drought, as national production decreased in the last agricultural season to 108 thousand tons, after it had ranged between 145 thousand tons and 150 thousand tons. The national production of dates was affected by the drought that Morocco experienced last season, as well as by fires, as the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests did not hide that the supply and demand market was directly affected by it.
