The Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is taking steps to prevent the spread of African swine fever (AFS) into the country from neighboring Asian countries, particularly Vietnam, by banning the illegal import of live pigs, pork, and pork products. This includes strengthening inspection and control of small-scale imports and tightening quarantine for pork and pork products imported through land border gates with Vietnam. The Asia-Africa Market Department reports that Cambodia's pork consumption demand is around 7,000-8,000 heads per day, while domestic supply only meets 6,000 heads per day, necessitating the import of over 1,000 heads per day, mainly from Vietnam and Thailand.
