Argentina

Bacterial Black Spot Disease Detected in Mangoes (Mar 29)

The agroecological characteristics of the NEA (Northeast of Argentina) allow the development of mango production, and the cultivation extends to various areas of the province of Formosa. From the Research and Technological Development Area for Family Agriculture (IPAF) in the NEA region of INTA, a research team detected the presence of a bacterial black spot in a batch of mangoes from the unit. This disease is considered the most important and limiting of the cultivation of this fruit.


Kenya

Kenyan Tommy Atkins Mango Export Volume to Uganda Increased in March (Mar 27)

Kenya's commercial apple mango season ended in early March 2023, causing a decrease in exports to Asia and the Middle East. Currently, Kenya is exporting the Tommy Atkins variety mango to Uganda, which is one of the leading mango importers from Kenya. In W12, the mango price stood at USD 0.85/kg.

Peru

Heavy Rains in the North of Peru Threaten the Next Campaign for Table Grapes and Mangoes at a Sanitary Level (Mar 27)

Due to the high humidity and continuous rain since the end of February, producers fear the presence of Anthracnose in mangoes. Although the mango harvests culminated before the intensification of rains in the north of the country, producers and advisors warn that fungi and pests can have serious consequences throughout the 2023/24 campaign, especially in the productivity and quality of the fruit.

Piura Exported 195,922 Tons of Mango in the 2022/23 Campaign in Peru (Mar 27)

The National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (Senasa) reported that producers from Piura managed to certify a total of 195,922 tons of mangoes during the 2022/23 export campaign, an increase of 7% compared to the previous 2021/22 campaign. The mango from Piura was shipped to 33 international markets, with Turkey being a new market. More than 45% of the product has gone to the United States and 30% to the Netherlands. The official registry reported that over 3,512 mango production sites were certified in Piura and are distributed over 11,803.27 hectares.

Producers in Ancash Sell Mangoes for the National Market at USD 0.48/kg (Mar 30)

The mango harvest in the Moro district and Nepeña, in the Ancash region, has started with disappointing prices for producers. The Service for Integral Development (Sedir) reported that buyers currently pay on average USD 0.48/kg (PEN 1.8/kg) for the premium quality of mangoes that were exported by air when last year the amount reached USD 0.80/kg (PEN 3/kg). The mango for national consumption and pulp decreased to USD 0.74/kg (PEN 0.28/kg), compared to USD 0.27/kg (PEN 1/kg) in 2022.
