Meat companies, restaurateurs, and butchers, relying on the MMB's commitment to imported butchered animals, stopped slaughtering from the market. However, it turned out that the incoming meat was a major failure both in terms of quantity and quality. The MMB, aiming to curb the rapid rise in slaughter prices, contacted firms individually, asking them not to slaughter from the market. The Board committed that the butchered animals to be imported from Uruguay would be cut and distributed to firms in the requested quantities. In line with this, 12,000 butchered animals were imported from Uruguay. The animals, which were offloaded from the port on Saturday, were transported to slaughterhouses and slaughtered.
