From February 22 to 28, 2021, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture of Murcia, through Ailimpo, provided an update on the lemon and grapefruit market situations. Due to cold and wind damage, 41% of lemons were processed in January 2021, a significant increase from the previous year. Despite COVID-19 impacts, lemons' export remains active, with the EU supporting the LIMON DE ESPAÑA promotion campaign and a new legal obligation for equal economic contribution of € 0.6/Ton from producer and marketer. The grapefruit supply from the Mediterranean has decreased, with reduced arrivals from Israel and declining volumes from Turkey. Demand remains stable in most European markets, though a slight decrease in France was caused by school holidays. The average prices for grapefruits remain stable despite challenges in the Florida and Texas campaigns due to a 25% additional tax in the EU and a polar cold wave, respectively.
