The USDA's APHIS has removed Costa Rica from a list of countries from which imports of certain banana plant parts are prohibited, following a complaint from Costa Rica. The initial order aimed to prevent the spread of the highly contagious soil-borne fungus, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical race 4 (Foc TR4), but Costa Rica's State Phytosanitary Service pointed out the error, fearing potential restrictions on banana imports from Costa Rica, a major exporter. APHIS has corrected the error, stating that Foc TR4 is not known to exist in Costa Rica.
