The Rosario Chamber of Commerce has forecasted that by 2024, China will lead the world in total meat consumption with 84.34 Mt, followed by the United States and the European Union. Argentina will rank ninth with 5.41 Mt but will have the world's second-highest average per capita meat consumption at 115 kg per person per year. Argentina is also expected to consume more chicken meat than beef for the first time in history. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) predicts that the average consumption of meat proteins per capita will increase by 3% in the medium term, with a 12% increase in total meat consumption by 2033. International meat trade is projected to increase due to increased purchasing power in Asian and Sub-Saharan African countries.
