Argentine Minister of Agriculture, Julián Domínguez, and Brazilian Minister of Agricultural Health, Marcos Montes Cordeiro, have agreed on a temporary exemption to Brazil's strict import criteria for Argentine hake (Merlucius hubbsi), effective until June 3, 2022. This measure is aimed at preventing potential shortages in Brazil during the high fish consumption period, despite the temporary relaxation of import requirements, there are concerns about the long-term impact on sales. The decision was made following reports of possible Argentine hake shortages and re-inspection issues at Brazilian ports. This development is particularly significant for Argentine fishing exports, which contribute 70% of their total output to Brazil, with a significant share coming from Patagonia and Mar del Plata.
