The Uruguayan Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries has issued a resolution to allow for the recategorization of properties currently interdicted due to bovine brucellosis, a disease that is also harmful to humans. This decision is based on monitoring and epidemiological criteria, with the Animal Health Division able to order necessary investigations. Once an epidemiological investigation is completed and the property is no longer considered a focus, it can be cleared for use. The ministry is also considering proposals from the National Animal Health Commission and stakeholders like the Rural Association of Uruguay and the Veterinary Medicine Society of Uruguay to enhance brucellosis control through various measures, including increased producer participation, mandatory bleeding, and vaccination of calves.
