The Bulgarian minister, Giorgi Takhov, has called on the European Commission to ban eggs imports from Ukraine to Bulgaria due to the significant impact on the domestic production. In the first half of 2024, Ukraine's egg imports to Bulgaria surged five-fold to 2,618 tons, largely due to the lower import prices compared to Bulgarian eggs, leading to market pressure. Despite existing protective measures, Takhov believes they are not effective in addressing the issue. The minister emphasizes the need to strike a balance between supporting Ukraine and protecting Bulgarian farmers from financial ruin.
