Farmers in Rangpur, Bangladesh, are expecting a bumper banana harvest and increased income due to the cultivation of the fruit as a cash crop. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, banana plantation has expanded across five districts, benefiting hundreds of farmers. The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) is supporting this initiative by providing technological assistance and encouraging the cultivation of various banana varieties and other fruits. This has led to improved livelihoods and self-reliance among small and marginal farmers, especially in riverine char areas.
