The 2023/2024 Chilean cherry campaign marked a significant success, setting a new record with 380,000 tons of cherries exported, primarily to China, which consumes over 90% of the southern hemisphere's cherries, particularly for New Year celebrations. Despite this heavy reliance on the Chinese market, efforts to diversify exports are showing promise, with increasing shipments to the United States, Europe, and various Asian countries, including South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and India. Chile remains the dominant exporter in the southern hemisphere, contributing 95% of the cherries, with Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa also participating in the market. The season's success is highlighted by a 50% increase in exports over previous years, underscoring the global demand for cherries and the efforts to reduce market concentration risks by exploring new destinations.
