Live crayfish imported from China are available online in Vietnam at a retail price of 360,000-370,000 VND per kilogram, which is a significant decrease from the previous year and higher than the prices of Vietnamese shrimp. Despite the drop in price, the import of crayfish is considered smuggled as it is not licensed for trade in Vietnam due to potential environmental risks and destruction of crops. The crayfish, scientifically named Procambarus clarki, is known to cause damage to dikes and spread diseases. Since 2013, it has been on the list of banned foreign organisms for import and development in Vietnam.
