COAG warns that cuts in the CAP may increase food prices by up to 9%

The Coordinadora de Organizaciones de Agricultores y Ganaderos (COAG) has warned that the 18% cut in direct aid from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2028/34 proposed by the European Commission (EC) "would drive up food prices by between 6.5% and 9.3%." This would result in an increase in the cost of the grocery basket by between 350 and 501 euros per household, according to this agricultural association. In a statement, it explained that the decrease in direct aid "would have a devastating impact on both the viability of small and medium-sized agricultural holdings and the pockets of millions of European families." COAG has confirmed that, along with other European organizations, "they will take to the streets of Brussels on December 18, in a large demonstration against the cut in the agricultural budget, the proposed CAP reform, the free trade agreements with Morocco and Mercosur, and the bureaucratic suffocation."
