Spain's cod fishing industry, which primarily caters to the British and Portuguese markets with a small fleet of four vessels, is currently grappling with significant challenges. These challenges include quota disputes with Norway and intense competition from Russian fish, leading to adverse effects on prices and wages within the industry. To counter these issues, Anfabasa, the industry's representative body, is strategizing to diversify its product range and expand its export markets to include Italy and France, alongside Portugal. This move aims to alleviate the impact of the current challenges faced by the industry.
