Poltava farmer Vasyl Burlaka planted 25 hectares of watermelons in three stages, but cold weather in May has delayed their ripening. Typically, watermelons ripen in 75-85 days, but the lack of moisture and low temperatures have caused setbacks. Initially, the price for these late watermelons will be UAH 15/kg, potentially dropping to UAH 5/kg. Poltava Oblast ranks second in melon crop cultivation, with 3.2 thousand hectares dedicated to watermelons and melons.
