In 2020, Spain saw a significant increase in fruit claims, with a total compensation of 132.4 million euros, marking a 15% rise from the previous year. The provinces of Huesca and Zaragoza accounted for a substantial portion of these claims, with 15.7 million euros and 6 million euros respectively. The compensation was distributed across various fruits including peach, apricot, plum, table apple, cider, nectarine, Paraguayan, platerina, and pear. Nearly 47,000 hectares of agricultural land were affected, with fruit producers from 25 Spanish provinces receiving compensation for damages such as hail and frost, with Lleida being the hardest hit territory.
