Peru: INIA installs germplasm of oca, olluco and mashua crops

Through the ProAgrobio project, the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) reported that it is carrying out work to sow germplasm of oca, olluco and mashua crops in the rural community of Lloqueta, Quispicanchi province, Cusco region. This activity, organized by INIA's Andenes Agrarian Experimental Station, aims to reincorporate germplasm of the highest genetic quality, high nutritional capacity, good yield per hectare, tolerance to pests and climatic adaptability. With the result of this intervention, INIA indicated that it seeks to strengthen the competitiveness of agricultural production, increase the economic profitability of small and medium farmers, strengthen local management of agricultural production and conserve the agro-biodiversity of native crops. The INIA detailed that it preserves and values more than 14,500 samples identified in cultures, breeding and microorganisms.
