The Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) has appealed to the Indian government not to extend a ban on the exports of de-oiled rice bran (DORB), a by-product of the rice milling process often used as livestock feed, which was imposed to address inflation in milk prices and fodder costs. India exports about 5 to 6 lakh tonnes of DORB annually to countries like Vietnam and Thailand. The SEA cites the recent decrease in DORB prices as a reason for lifting the ban, effective July 31, 2024. However, India's overall oilmeal exports, a by-product of oilseed processing used in livestock feed, saw a 6% year-over-year decrease in April 2024 due to the ban on DORB exports.
