In August 2021, Georgia experienced a significant shift in its fruit and vegetable trade, marking the first time it imported greenhouse tomatoes and witnessing a surge in imports of carrots, potatoes, and melons. The majority of these imports, especially carrots and potatoes, were sourced from Turkey. This change was attributed to a decrease in local production of these crops due to adverse weather conditions. While melon imports were up from the previous year, they still fell short of the 2019 levels. Conversely, Georgia saw a drastic reduction in its blueberry exports in August, but overall, it still achieved a record export volume for the year, with the Russian market being its primary export destination.
