Between January and April of 2021, Egypt witnessed a significant shift in its fish import dynamics. Total fish imports saw a 20% decrease, amounting to $260.661 million, compared to the same period in 2020. Despite this decline, the imports of shrimp and tuna surged by 34%, contributing $129.238 million or 50% to the total fish import bill. This surge was predominantly driven by a 44.5% increase in imported prepared or preserved tuna, reaching $79.433 million, and an 19.4% increase in last frozen shrimp and prawns, totaling $49.805 million. Other frozen fish imports also saw a marginal growth of 2.2%, contributing $28.968 million to the total.
