Embrapa Cerrados has introduced three new cassava cultivars, BRS 417, BRS 418, and BRS 419, specifically developed for the flour and starch industry in Central Brazil's Cerrado region. These cultivars are renowned for their increased starch productivity, favorable architecture for cultural treatments and mechanized planting, and moderate bacteriosis resistance. These new varieties are expected to enhance cassava farming systems and allow for more cultivar diversity. Embrapa made the propagation material available to companies that produce seed stalks and micropropagated seedlings in the second half of 2020. The cultivars were created through Embrapa Cerrados' genetic improvement program, with a focus on productivity, resistance to pests and diseases, and adaptation to Cerrado production systems.
