Recent good rainfall in Europe since early March 2023 is expected to boost seeded crops, aiding a 10% increase in the EU sunflower crop, reaching 48 million tonnes, a 5-year high. The Consortium of Grains (COCERAL) predicts the EU27 sunflower production to hit 11.2 million tonnes, thanks to increased production in Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary. With global sunflower consumption projected to grow by 4% to 55.2 million tonnes, the expected EU crop size is expected to meet the demand, potentially shifting demand from canola oil to sunflower oil.
