In the first half of 2022, Mexico saw a significant increase in strawberry exports, surpassing the previous year's numbers and reaching over two billion dollars in commercial value. The berry subsector, which includes blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries, is responsible for creating over 500,000 direct jobs across 22 states. The export volume and economic impact of each type of berry have seen increases, with Mexico achieving the world's second-best performance in strawberry production, only behind China. Efforts are underway to export berry seedlings to Morocco and pursue export opportunities in the United States. The national association representing berry exporters is working with federal authorities to promote inclusive and sustainable agriculture, focusing on efficient water management.
