Farmers and the government discussed the transition to EU standards: risks and prospects

Representatives of agricultural associations and businesses met with Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka. The main topic of the conversation was the preparation of Ukrainian agriculture to operate under the rules of the European Union. Deputy Chairman of the VAR Mykhailo Sokolov drew attention to possible problems for Ukrainian farms. He is concerned that the introduction of strict European standards before joining the EU may weaken the positions of our agrarians in the global market. "For us, the key issue is how Ukraine will maintain competitiveness in the markets of third countries if we already implement restrictions before joining the EU, which our competitors do not have. It is also important to understand what the model of applying the CAP will be, as it provides support only to the smallest producers who cultivate no more than 15% of all agricultural land in Ukraine," noted Mykhailo Sokolov.
