Commercial banana farming has seen a surge in profit in Bangladesh, particularly in the Barind region, with farmers experiencing higher profits from banana crops than other crops due to high demand and satisfactory market prices. Despite challenges in the past two years due to Covid-19, this year has brought contentment to farmers. Banana varieties like Anupam, Champa, Meher Sagar, and Manik are commonly cultivated for their quick harvest. Banana farming is also known for its potential for companion cropping when trees are young. In Puthia upazila, over 8,000 bighas of land has been dedicated to banana cultivation this year, contributing to the district's economy. The region also introduces fruit-bagging banana farming to ensure hygiene and profitability. Despite the challenges of pests and diseases, bananas remain a crucial cash crop in Bangladesh, with the Rajshahi region producing a significant portion of the country's annual production.
