Food inflation in India has reached its highest level since January 2020, with tomatoes becoming significantly more expensive due to reduced stock caused by erratic weather conditions. Burger King in India is importing tomatoes from Nepal to cope with the shortage, but the removal of tomatoes from their recipes is only a temporary measure. The Indian government has launched a Tomato Grand Challenge Hackathon to find solutions and has ordered tomatoes to be distributed from states with higher production to major cities in an effort to bring down prices.
