First Georgian asparagus available

The first asparagus of the season are available on the Georgian market. Although it is still a few weeks before the harvest of the open field crops starts, the asparagus grown in the high tunnels are already being sold. Currently, the retail price of asparagus in specialized fruit and vegetable shops and supermarkets is about 55 GEL per kg (€ 20.07). One of the asparagus growers in Georgia is the cooperative "Ozaani", which, in addition to open field cultivation in eastern Georgia, in the municipality of Dedoplistskaro, also has tunnel greenhouses. This year, the cooperative expects to harvest up to one tonne of asparagus from the tunnels, which will be sold in supermarket chains in Tbilisi, including Agrohub, Nikora and Carrefour.
