Crimean fishermen have been exporting fish, shrimp, and rapana to Belarus, Syria, and Turkey despite catch restrictions due to the special military operation (SMO). The fishing volumes have been declining since February 2022 due to shipping restrictions and the closure of main fishing areas, resulting in a decrease in production from 7.1 thousand tons in 2022 to 5.9 thousand tons in 2023. In the first half of 2024, fish product exports amounted to 39.91 tons for a total of $94,320. The region has 212 fishing enterprises equipped with 140 vessels and does not have quotas for industrial fishing in 2023-2024. There are three shipbuilding and ship repair enterprises in the region and they are ready to build fishing and fish processing vessels if there is financing available.
