The 2021 strawberry season in Uzbekistan was shorter and pricier than the previous year, with the season ending two weeks earlier than in 2020. Despite the shorter duration, the higher prices compensated for the reduced sales period for the farmers. Compared to neighboring Tajikistan, Uzbekistan's wholesale strawberry prices were significantly higher, attributed to the lack of processing and packaging technologies for export in Tajikistan. EastFruit suggests that Uzbekistan could benefit from the introduction of modern technologies, improved strawberry varieties, and greenhouse cultivation for export. Additionally, the demand for berries, especially strawberries, in Uzbekistan and globally is on the rise, with potential opportunities for Central Asian countries in the berry trade, especially in supplying to Russia.
