In 2023, Australian goat production hit a record high, significantly increasing from a 20-year low in 2020, with the number of processed animals doubling in just three years. Despite this, goatmeat prices fell due to increased supply. Australia emerged as the world's leading goatmeat exporter, with the US, China Mainland, and South Korea being its primary markets. The Goat Trail campaign was launched domestically by MLA in 2024 to boost awareness and accessibility of goatmeat in Sydney. Additionally, affordable prices led to an increase in demand for Australian goatmeat in the Caribbean, and a rebound in live goat exports, primarily to Malaysia and China.
