Germany's farmers are expanding their corn cultivation areas, expecting higher average yields and a total production of 94.36 million tons, a 6.3% increase from 2023. The production is expected to consist of 89.61 million tons for silage and 4.75 million tons for grain. The national yield for corn for grain is projected to be 2.2% lower than last year at 94.4 dt/ha, while the yield for corn for silage is expected to increase by 1.5% to 433.8 dt/ha. The total area under maize in Germany in 2024 is projected to be around 2.57 million hectares, with Lower Saxony surpassing Bavaria as the state with the largest area under grain maize cultivation at 119,500 hectares.
