The article highlights the ongoing research by Hortifruti Brasil to calculate the production costs of potatoes in Vargem Grande do Sul, São Paulo, to support the chip industry. The team has collected data for the 2019 season and created a budget for 2020 in collaboration with local producers and technicians. The São Paulo region is significant as it accounts for a large portion of the chip industry, with a typical farm being 300 hectares. Planting is done between March and May, and harvesting between July and October. The main potato cultivar used is Atlantic, although a major chip company also uses its own varieties. You can find the detailed study and production cost estimates in the October issue of Hortifruti Brasil.
