Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister, Serik Zhumangarin, has outlined plans to diversify the country's crop areas by reducing the plantings of wheat and barley and increasing the plantings of oilseeds and fodder crops. The total sown area for the 2024 season will be 23.9 million hectares, a decrease from the previous year. The Akmola region will see the largest reduction in wheat sown areas, which will be diversified into oilseeds. The government is also developing an advance subsidy mechanism to encourage the use of fertilizers by Kazakh farmers.
