The National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP) has initiated a 20-day survey campaign in the San Jorge Gulf, national waters, and the Chubut coast to monitor the population of shrimp (Pleoticus muelleri) using the commercial fishing vessel Bogavante Segundo. The research aims to identify accessible and vulnerable shrimp concentrations for commercial trawling, analyze the spatial distribution of mature and impregnated females, and evaluate the fertility and ovarian maturation indices. The survey will also examine the composition, abundance, and distribution of the epi-benthic fauna associated with the shrimp, as well as the catch composition and oceanographic variables in the area. This research, which started in March 2017, is funded by the freezing trawl companies.
