The National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) promotes meliponiculture, an activity based on the breeding of native stingless bees, as a new sustainable economic alternative in the Asháninka communities of the Río Tambo district, in the Junín region. This initiative is part of the project “Sustainable management of meliponines as a mechanism for ecological and productive resilience,” managed by Devida in conjunction with the Asháninka Central of the Río Tambo (CART) and financed by Profonanpe and the National Service of Protected Natural Areas (Sernanp). Through apiculture activities and communal management, Devida specialists accompany 16 families from the native Anapate and Cheni communities, providing them with technical assistance for the conservation of native bees and the production of organic honey with cultural identity.
