Farmers in Ben Luc district, the largest sugarcane material area of Long An province, are abandoning sugarcane cultivation in favor of lemons and dragon fruit due to significant losses caused by the closure of two sugar factories and a dramatic drop in sugarcane prices. The switch to new crops has proven profitable for many farmers. The district has reduced its sugarcane cultivation to just 45 hectares, with most farmers growing the crop for sugarcane juice. The government is supporting the sustainable development of lemon trees and has invested in infrastructure for specialized lemon-growing areas. Farmers are struggling with a lack of infrastructure and irrigation for fruit tree cultivation and are calling for government investment in bridges, roads, and electricity to support their crop changes.
